Erica Epstein and Laura Penn: As teachers raising their family in Brooklyn, NY, Laura and her husband Mike instilled Jewish values in their children. Following their first trip to Israel in 1965, Laura was so impressed with Hadassah that she joined the Tamar chapter in Brooklyn. She rose to Chapter President, and upon moving to Florida, immediately joined the Tamara chapter in Boynton Beach, where she chaired Major Gifts.

Erica followed her parents into teaching, earning a Master’s degree in special education and teaching children during extended stays in the hospital. There she met her husband, Larry who had just returned from medical school in Israel. Moving to New Rochelle in 1989 they joined Beth El Synagogue, with their children, Marc and Mollie, where they have been active members ever since. One of the family’s fondest memories is going to Israel on a Hadassah mission. After seeing all the medical advancements at Hadassah Hospital, Larry and Erica decided to make a financial commitment to Hadassah, directing their donations to Neonatology and Pediatrics. Erica and Laura believe that Hadassah has “the power to heal the world.”

Myra Glajchen and Susannah Cohen: Myra Glajchen is a social work clinician, teacher, and researcher, teaching palliative care to the next generation of physicians and social workers. She grew up in an active Jewish household in South Africa, attended Jewish Day School and accompanied her mother to Jewish charitable events. All left a lasting impression. Since moving to New Rochelle, Myra has served on the board of the Neshama Chapter of Hadassah, on the Westchester Regional Board of Hadassah, and as Chair of the Adult Education Committee at Westchester Jewish Center. Myra and her husband David support many Jewish charities and causes in the US and Israel.

Susannah Cohen is a graduate of Columbia University and Columbia Law School with a passion for civil rights and gender equity. She currently works at Kaplan, Hecker & Fink LLP in New York City. Susannah has been active in Jewish communities throughout her life, including as a Legislative Assistant at the Religious Action Center for Reform Judaism. Susannah’s Jewish values drive her personal and professional commitment to social justice.

Barbara, Andy Panken and Family: Barbara and Andy Panken grew up in neighborhoods filled with first and second generation Jews. Their parents worked hard, followed Jewish traditions, and founded and joined synagogues and philanthropic organizations. And then, June 5, 1967, the 6-day war! “Boy, were we proud Zionists! We sang, danced, and booked our trips to Israel.”

Once married, they moved to White Plains where they raised Ali, Lauren, and Emmy, their proudest and most beloved achievements. Barbara joined HADASSAH in 2007 through the Hadassah Leadership Academy, deciding that Hadassah would be the family’s vehicle to express their support of Israel. Over the years they have deepened their commitment to HADASSAH. Andy has become a become a tremendous supporter and fundraiser. Barbara is currently on the Westchester board, holding the Advocacy portfolio. They have visited Hadassah Hospital many times, most recently when Barbara attended the 100th Convention in Israel, meeting with fellow Hadassah supporters and continuing to be amazed by the work of Hadassah. “We are proud Hadassah warriors, wonder women and men!”
